Last Night

I am happy to report the venue at La Cantera was great. We had a good crowd and the poetry was fantastic. I had not read in a long time as a feature and it felt good to do it again. I read poetry from different stages in my life including a bit of humorous work about growing up in the valley.
My reward came at the end and it was better than any standing ovation I have ever received or kudos of any kind. There was a young lady in the audience whom I had never seen before yet while I was reading I felt very close to her. At the end of the reading she came up to me and introduced herself. She was referred to me several months back and we have only communicated by email. Without going into detail of our exchanges I can share with you that she is no longer in the situation she was in before. It was so good to meet her in person and to hug her and feel that energy from her. Here again reminding me what I am supposed to be doing. To hell with everything else! She did tell me of another situation that she is in as a result of the domino effect of being a victim/survivor of abuse. I gave her my word that I would do what I can to help her with this situation as well.

This weekend I will nestle into the thin lines of the hill country and enjoy all it has to offer. It is a fabulous place to be and I am grateful for the embrace and rewards it provides.
