Day of the Dead

The people who have died at the hands of their abuser are honored this day. Yes we remember loved ones because they are a part of us yet we forget about the silent witness because it doesn't involve us and it didn't make the news.
October is almost over which means Domestic Violence Awareness month has passed us by. Does this mean the abusers will be dormant until next October? Not a chance. Every 9 seconds a woman is beaten and the only one that matters is the one who attracts the media lights. Yet the victims who fall asleep next to their abuser night after night continue to be ignored or judged because they don't leave. Getting involved is the key to ending the violence. Tell on the abusers even if you do it anonomously. Post the following phone number to the National Domestic Violence Line 1-800-799-7233 anywhere and everywhere or just hand it to someone you think might need it. Better safe than sorry.

I am ashamed to say that this October I have been stagnant. My excuse is selfish and self centered as if the world revolves around me. Last year and the ones before I was very busy traveling all over South Texas promoting awareness through workshops and poetry venues and presentations and this year nothing. Even my usual Halloween tradition isn't going to happen. Instead I will sit outside staring into my new world and watching and listening to the bikes go by. I will probably ride my bike (bicycle) too and go to my new hang out. I believe my guilt kept me up last night as I cried myself to sleep once more and of course my mind was in New Ulm under starlit skies so again I slept on the arm of peace, love and poetry with my world snuggled up against me
